Pouring Concrete
These pictures provide a view of the construction process
not normally seen. They capture a number of workmen busy putting
in the concrete floor of the soon-to-be Grand Foyer as well as delivering
wall board.
Thanks for Mara Berndt for these pictures

As
fast as the wet concrete mix can be poured from the massive delivery
truck, the workers level it out and smooth it. |
|
Looking
out towards Lincoln Ave., we see them putting the finishing touches on
one section of the foyer while waiting for the next cement truck to
arrive.
|
|
By
the end of the work day, the entire floor is in place, and the last worker
gives it the finishing touches.

|
Have
you ever wondered how they got all that wall board down into the
basement? We envisioned lots of strong men making trip after trip up
and down the stairs, but it turns out they're smarter than
that. They can deliver it right through one of the windows.
We're sure muscles are still required, however.

Maybe
it's not clear what they're doing here, but again, they're using their
brains, not their muscle. These guys are hoisting a massive steel
beam into place. The worker in the foreground turns the crank on the
lift which raises the beam to the ceiling so the other worker can fasten
it, first at one end and then the other.
