Open and closed

Most of this week's work was confined to applying joint compound to the Grand Foyer drywall and enclosing the two columns on each side of the stained glass window closest to the rear of the sanctuary.  These columns contain heat ducts, exhaust pipes for boilers and hot water heaters, and water lines for the baseboard heating in the foyer.  They're insulated with fiberglass and covered with one-inch-thick drywall as a special fire retardant.

Have you noticed anything new in the sanctuary? Yes, the new choir loft railing is up.  This is not the final color.  It's just a primer coat. Stay tuned for the big reveal!

Next week will be a full week, so expect lots of progress.

(Thanks for Sue Wyatt for this report)

The X is gone.  Earlier there was a wooden X providing temporary bracing to the entrance way (see it) but now it's gone.

It doesn't have anything specific to do with the construction, but note that there is some snow on the ground.  When the groundbreaking took place on April 10, the snow from last winter had just melted.  We've gone through summer now we're back into snow-season.

Pastor had hoped that people would be able to enter through the foyer entrance this Sunday, but equipment inside blocked the entrance, so we'll have to wait until next week.

This isn't the best picture in the world as it was pretty dark in the foyer when this was taken, but you can see that the drywall has been taped and sanded.  It looks to us as if it's ready for painting.

We're not sure what all the stuff on the rack in the foreground is, but we expect that next week's pictures will reveal their purpose.  Stay tuned.

This is the north wall of the foyer.  As you enter the foyer from the parking lot, it's the wall on your left.  It's ready for paining too.

It's a nice big wall--any volunteers to paint a big mural?  Just kidding--we're sure the architect has great plans for it.  We'll have to wait and see.

This is what was most exciting to your website crew:  The new balcony railing is in place.  It's interesting to see it before all the trim is in place.  It's easy to see that it welded in place and looks very, very sturdy.

As has been reported, this is not the final color.

Just when Janet thought that the office area was finished with construction, the guys came up and knocked a big hole in the wall just outside her office.  Here it's covered with plastic.

It may be a little messy, Janet, but it's for a good cause. It will be the entrance for the lift and will provide access for all to the offices.
