Habitat for Humanity

St. Paul’s will participate in building another Habitat house with its seven Interfaith Partners.  To support this activity, we will hold our annual Chicken BBQ fundraiser for the Habitat project on Saturday, August 29, 2009.  This is a great opportunity to enjoy a freshly grilled ½ chicken dinner and to support the Habitat project.

A recent evaluation of the benefits of the Flower City Habitat for Humanity program showed some wonderful statistics.  98% of students living in Habitat homes graduate from high school or receive their GED.  This compares with only a 53% rate for the Rochester City School District overall.  In addition, 72% pursued post high-school education.  The financial stability of Habitat owned homes is significantly higher than the overall Rochester rate.  The results of all the areas evaluated showed that Habitat owners were well above the average Rochester rate for financial stability, health care, education and community participation.  We should feel proud to be involved in the effort to help more families to become owners of Habitat homes.

Consider having family or friends over for a BBQ picnic on August 29th to celebrate life and the joy of building new homes for new home owners who will continue to improve the quality of life in Rochester.
